Geszler, György

György Geszler was born in Budapest on 1 February, 1913. His father, Ödön Geszler was also composer, critic and music teacher. He studied composition with Albert Sik1ós (1931-1935) and piano with Imre Keéri-Szántó (1935-1937) at the Budapest Academy of Music. From 1935 until his retirement in 1975, he taught music theory, composition and piano at the Municipal Music School in his native city. He composed mainly instrumental music. His art was strongly influenced by fine arts especially by the paintigs of Victor Vasarely whose work is generally seen as aligned with Op-art. He died in Budapest on 9 January, 1998
